This Central American sponge (also known as Maya Loofah) more closely resembles the Middle Eastern (Egyptian) sponge, which is less tightly woven, less rigid, lighter and requires a shorter break in period than the Eastern variety. Many consider it to be "softer", although some have claimed it to be more abrasive in some cases. Regardless, it is still a great sponge that can be used immediately for exfoliating, massaging and cleaning. (Pros: Immediate use, softer, dries quicker. / Cons: Not as rigid, softer, wears out quicker.)
